The substantial antique gilt frame retains a beautiful aged patina with expected historic wear.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAbout the Artist\u003cbr\u003eLucie “Loes” Meeles-van Groningen (Zwolle, 1884 – Bussum, 1970) was a Dutch painter who received an unusually extensive artistic education. She studied at the academy in The Hague, the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, and subsequently at the Académie Colarossi in Paris. In 1913 she married the painter Derk Meeles (1872–1958) and moved to the artists’ community of Laren, where the couple lived at a house known as De Vlasschuur. Van Groningen remained there until 1968. She painted landscapes, portraits, flowers and still lifes, working in an impressionistic-naturalistic manner.
