antique-french-house-and-garden-oil-46659
Antique French House and Garden Oil Painting | Signed & Dated 1892

A beautiful French summer landscape dated 1892 by Louise Amélie Landré (1852–1934), depicting a wonderfully peaceful French country house surrounded by climbing roses, flowering borders and a lush garden. Landré was a successful Parisian painter who exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon, and this charming domestic landscape captures the quieter, more intimate side of her work. It is presented in an especially handsome antique gilt frame with exuberant Rococo-style corner ornament.

It is the small details that give the painting so much charm. A decorative urn stands beside the entrance, shutters have been left casually open, and the pathway curves through beds filled with pink, white and orange flowers. The garden feels cultivated but comfortably informal, more a lived-in French home than an idealised château landscape.

Louise Amélie Landré
Louise Amélie Landré (1852–1934) was born in Paris and trained under prominent French painters including Charles Chaplin and Félix-Joseph Barrias. She began exhibiting at the Paris Salon in 1876 and became a member of the Société des Artistes Français in 1885. Landré worked across portraiture, genre scenes and landscape painting. Her career was unusually long, extending well into the 20th century. She received first prize from the Union des Femmes Peintres et Sculpteurs in 1909 and an honourable mention at the Paris Salon in 1911. Her work can today be found in public collections including the Musée des Beaux-Arts d’Angers and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which holds three of her watercolours depicting French soldiers during the First World War.

Good antique condition with age-related surface character consistent with its period. The elaborate antique gilt frame retains a beautiful historic patina with expected rubbing, marks, darkening and areas of wear and loss to the gilded decoration.

Louise Amélie Landré (1852–1934)
French School
Dated 1892
Oil on canvas
French cottage and summer garden
Signed and dated lower left
Antique gilt frame

Sizing incl Frame:
Height: 15.75 inch (40cm)
Width: 18.90 inch (48cm)
Depth: 1.97 inch (5cm)

Sizing Painting:
Height: 10.43 inch (26.5cm)
Width: 13.78 inch (35cm)
FREE International Shipping

Insurance:
All products are shipped in good boxes and very well packaged.

All products are shipped fully insured for international shipping.
