She studied under the celebrated academic painter Diogène Maillart (1840–1926), whose prestigious drawing and painting classes in Montparnasse attracted many aspiring artists. She also received instruction from the painter Émile Renard. Recognising her talent, Diogène Maillart selected Suzanne in 1899 as one of three students to assist him in Rome, preparing a large panoramic drawing of the city for the Exposition Universelle of 1900 in Paris. She subsequently established a professional career in Paris, exhibiting regularly at the prestigious Salon des Artistes Français. Although particularly admired for her portraits and pastels, her work also included floral still lifes and landscapes. Her artistic achievements were recognised with several distinctions, including the Nathaniel de Rothschild Foundation Prize in 1927 and 1932, and the Alfred Moreau Foundation Prize in 1928 and 1935. Following the death of her husband, Roger Maillart, in 1915, Suzanne supported her family through her painting and teaching.
