Colomes, an artist we have not yet been able to identify, and presented in a handsome antique gilt frame.

Abbaye de Saint-Sever-de-Rustan
The Abbey of Saint-Sever-de-Rustan has a history stretching back to the Middle Ages, when it became an important Benedictine religious establishment in the historic region of Gascony. Like many French monasteries, the abbey experienced centuries of architectural changes. One of its most remarkable surviving features is the abbey church, whose architecture preserves elements of its medieval origins. The painting is particularly interesting as a 19th-century representation of this historic site, documenting not only the religious buildings but also the surrounding village architecture and rural landscape.

Good antique condition with age-related surface character consistent with its period.
The antique gilt frame retains an attractive historic patina with expected rubbing, marks, darkening and small areas of wear to the gilded decoration.

French School
19th century
Oil painting
Abbaye de Saint-Sever-de-Rustan, Hautes-Pyrénées, France
Signed J.
