The antique gilt frame retains a beautiful historic patina with expected rubbing, marks and areas of wear to the gilded ornamentation.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLouis Henri Adolphe Hervier (1818–1879)\u003cbr\u003eBorn in Paris in 1818, Adolphe Hervier was a French painter, watercolourist and printmaker particularly admired for his atmospheric landscapes, coastal scenes and depictions of rural France. He studied with his father, the painter Marc-Antoine Hervier, and developed an independent artistic approach characterised by expressive handling and a fascination with dramatic effects of light. Hervier exhibited at the Paris Salon and became particularly associated with the landscapes and coastal communities of Normandy.
