This painting was on display at the Louvre from 1878-1986 and since 1986 has been transferred across the road to Musee d'Orsay. We do believe to be a students study from École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. At the turn of the century, the canvas supplier, located at 6 rue halevy, was one of the main suppliers to the school, located just next to the Louvre and School.
