A remarkable and quite large, 18th century French portrait dated 1795, depicting a young boy in elegant attire. A large and atmospheric antique oil painting with strong historical presence. The child is depicted wearing a dark outfit with a striking white collar, a detail that immediately anchors the painting within the late 18th century. His posture, slightly turned and leaning, introduces a sense of movement and spontaneity rarely found in more rigid formal portraiture.

His expression is soft and contemplative, conveying both innocence and individuality. The artist has handled the face with particular care, using gentle transitions of light to create a lifelike presence. An intriguing element of the composition is the inscribed surface beside the figure, which adds both visual interest and historical character, suggesting identity, commemoration, or dedication.

Portraits of this kind were often commissioned to commemorate children of prominent families, capturing both likeness and status during a time of great cultural and political change in France.

Good antique condition consistent with age. The painting shows natural craquelure, surface patina, and age-related wear. The frame shows wear appropriate to its age.
The painting is presented in a substantial antique gilt frame, which enhances its presence and complements the depth of the composition.
