Dating from the turn of the 19th century (Circa 1900), a charming French antique cat portrait oil painting. A very well painted cat painting, lovely deep colours layered into the cat laying down on the blanket over the turned basket. This oil painting on board comes from is signed by the Spanish artist Enrique Simonet Lombardo (Valencia, 1866 - Madrid, 1927) and marked for "Paris". Framed in a white frame. The artist was really quite talented winning some big awards for his oil painting in his career, bio is below. Please see all photos.
About the Artist:
Enrique Simonet Lombardo (1866–1927) was a prominent Spanish painter known for his masterful academic style and dramatic compositions. Born in Valencia and later based in Madrid, Simonet trained at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos and gained early acclaim with works like El corazón de Jesús. He traveled extensively, including to Rome, Paris and the Middle East, enriching his work with exotic and religious themes. His painting Anatomy of the Heart (La autopsia) remains one of Spain’s most iconic realist masterpieces. A member of the Royal Academy, Simonet also served as a professor and left a lasting mark on Spanish art.
