A beautiful oil painting of a french village. This antique oil painting really captures the feel of a small french village in the country, surrounded by a rose garden. This antique oil painting is signed by the French artist "Pauline Elise Leonide Bourges" (French, 1838-1909)
This atmospheric, Barbizon School landscape depicts a lovely little flower garden and over a little village backdrop, all rendered in a light impasto technique. The dark sky is dramatically contrasted by wonderful lighting providing an amazing feeling of the day.
Bourges studied under Théodore Frédéric Salmon, Pierre-Édouard Frère, and Charles-François Daubigny. Influenced heavily by one of the Barbizon school founders Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. Leonide Bourges embraced "en plein air" painting and exhibited landscapes at the Salon, making her debut in 1857 with a still life. In 1871, she moved to Auvers-sur-Oise, where she and Daubigny formed close ties with the artistic circle surrounding Camille Corot, Honoré Daumier, Eugène-Stanislas Oudinot de La Faverie, Adolphe-Victor Geoffroy-Dechaume, and Jules Dupré. The piece is oil on wood painters board and signed.
This painting and frame have recently been to the restorer for a cleaning and new varnish. Ready to be hung on the wall and enjoyed by future generations. If kept in a smoke free home it should be find for another 50 years before needing a professional cleaning.

In the UK, it is not "FREE" but there is a reduced VAT of 5% paid at import.
