$5,416.00
Tax included.

An exceptional pair of 18th century portraits. One depicting a girl and one of an adorable boy. These children are likely German nobility as the artist was known to have spent quite some time with the German court and painted many members from the court. The clothing of the children is also inline with those in German nobility of the 18th century.

These paintings have been auctioned by Christies Amsterdam in November 2004 in the past and still have the stickers from the Christie's auction on the back. The have also gone through restoration and have been relined. They sold at auction with a hammer price of 4780 Euro in 2004. https://www.christies.com/en/lot/lot-4366417

Attributed Johann Friedrich August Tischbein (Maastricht 1750-1812 Heidelberg):
About the artist:

Johann Friedrich August Tischbein, also known as the "Leipzig Tischbein," was a prominent German portrait painter born on March 9, 1750, in Maastricht, then part of the Dutch Republic, and died on June 21, 1812, in Heidelberg, Germany. He was a member of the renowned Tischbein family of artists, known for their contributions to painting during the 18th and 19th centuries.

He spent much of his career traveling and working in various European cities. He worked in The Hague and Paris before moving to Berlin, where he became a sought-after portraitist. His most significant period was in Leipzig, he became well-known for his portraits of German nobility, intellectuals, and members of high society. His work is characterized by its elegant composition, attention to detail, and a delicate rendering of facial expressions, reflecting the influence of both Neoclassicism and the earlier Rococo style. His portraits are often noted for their ability to capture the personality and status of the sitter, making them not just likenesses but also psychological studies. Tischbein's works remain significant in the history of German portraiture, representing a bridge between the Rococo and Neoclassical styles. His influence can be seen in the works of later portrait painters in Germany and beyond.
