About Piet van Wijngaerdt (1873-1964):
Petrus Theodorus (Piet) van Wijngaerdt (Amsterdam 1873 – 1964) was a Dutch artist, painter, draftsman, etcher, and lithographer. He studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam from 1892 to 1897. After his studies, he spent time in Paris before settling in Amsterdam. His works from this period exhibit luministic qualities and include floral still lifes, landscapes, figure studies, portraits, interiors, often in an impressionistic style. From 1913 to 1920, Van Wijngaerdt played a significant role in the artistic divide between traditional and modern styles. He co-founded the Bergen School alongside Henri Le Fauconnier advocating expressionistic principles. Van Wijngaerdt works are held in collections such as the Stedelijk Museum, Dordrechts Museum, and Frans Hals Museum. Van Wijngaerdt worked until his death at 90, leaving a legacy as a pivotal figure in Dutch modern art.
