Antique French Maritime Painting, Vintage Nautical Painting, Original Signed Ship Oil Painting, Antique Painted on Glass Framed

$405.00
Tax included.

Dating from the early 20th Century - This French antique oil painting is painted between 3 glass panels. A technique to add depth into the art piece. It's signed in the lower left corner Pierre Cadre. Comes in a off-white frame. This piece has some signs of it's age but that adds to it's charm.

Of the glass layers, both the front and back has been cleaned but there is some dust between the layers. When hanging on the wall it's not distracting but noticeable looking up close. Please see all photos.

About Pierre-Louis Cadre (1884-1972):
Pierre-Louis Cadre born in Pontivy France in 1884, was the son of a tailor and milliner. Orphaned young, he was raised by his uncle Maxime. Talented in drawing, he earned a scholarship to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1903. After struggling in Paris, he returned to Pontivy but was later drafted during the war. In 1920, he settled in Bangor (Belle-Île-en-Mer), painting Maritime, Nautical and Seascape scenes of Brittany (Bretagne) and fulfilling public commissions. A member of the National Society of Fine Arts, he exhibited works such as Le Porthos and Bigoudennes at the 1929 Salon.

There was a lovely book published in 2011 about him and his maritime paintings in Bretagne, France. The book is a small coffee table book of his works and historical significant to the the region. Please message if you'd like the link to the book.
