Artist Bio – Marie Didière Calvès (1883–1957)
Marie Didière Calvès was a French painter active in the first half of the 20th century. Born in 1883, she became known for her depictions of animals and rural life. Her work reflects a strong understanding of anatomy and movement, particularly in her portrayals of dogs and sporting subjects. Calvès worked during a period when animal painting maintained a respected position within French artistic circles. Her paintings demonstrate careful observation and confident brushwork, balancing realism with expressive atmosphere. She continued working throughout the early decades of the century and died in 1957.
