Antique Horse and Figure Oil Painting – Meadow Sunset Landscape, 19th Century Gold Frame

This evocative French landscape painting, dating to the late 19th century, captures a peaceful rural scene at the close of day. A lone figure walks alongside his horse across a gently sloping field, approaching a narrow stream. The water reflects the warm tones of the sky, while a pair of ducks add a subtle touch of life in the foreground. The composition is rich in atmosphere. The sky is softly tinted with hues of pink and gold, suggesting sunset, while the landscape is rendered in warm earth tones and soft greens. The artist uses light and reflection to create depth and a sense of quiet movement through the scene.

This type of painting reflects the enduring influence of Barbizon and naturalist traditions in France, where artists focused on rural life, everyday moments, and the relationship between people and the land.

Good antique condition consistent with age. The painting shows natural craquelure and surface patina. The frame shows wear appropriate to its age. Painted in oil on canvas and presented in a classic antique gilt frame, the piece has strong decorative appeal and works beautifully in both traditional and modern interiors.
