Circa 1880 - French Antique Landscape Oil Painting from the Barbizon School
A lovely antique French Barbizon School landscape oil painting with some cows. This painting dates to around 1880 and the painting is in quite the traditional style of the Barbizon school which was incredibly popular at the time. Very reminiscent of the work in the forest of Fontainebleau from Theodore Rousseau and Charles-François Daubigny. The colours of this painting are exceptional, it does remind me quite a bit of some of the work Rousseau has on display at The MET in New York. Within the last 30 years this painting has been to a restorer for a new secondary canvas and new stretchers to the back. The work was very well done, we also do not see any signs of in-painting and the painting is currently quite clean.
Ready to be hang, and to be enjoyed for generations. Comes in a heavy gold gilt frame, the frame has some signs of it's age, Please see all photos
