Late 19th Century French Academic Nude Drawing. Large Figure Study in Gilt Frame

A finely executed French academic figure drawing, dating to the late 19th century, depicting a standing male nude in a classical studio pose. Recently reset in its 19th Century Frame and presented with care, this accomplished drawing embodies the discipline and clarity of Parisian academic studio training.

This strong academic drawing depicts a male nude standing in contrapposto, one arm resting on a studio support and the body subtly shifted to explore balance, anatomy, and weight distribution. The pose is immediately recognisable as an atelier life study, designed to train the artist’s eye in proportion and structure.

The drawing demonstrates a high level of technical confidence. The artist shows excellent understanding of musculature, bone structure, and natural movement, particularly in the legs, torso, and shoulder line. Shading is carefully controlled, moving from firm structural modelling into softer tonal transitions that give the figure volume and presence.
