A charming late-19th-century French figure study painted on wood panel, Signed by the French artist "A Duval". Depicting a gentleman in period costume holding a walking cane. Full of character and theatrical flair, and presented in a richly carved antique gilt frame.

This elegant French oil painting captures a costumed gentleman standing confidently with one hand resting on his cane and the other on his hip. His attire, knee-length boots, voluminous sleeves, decorative tunic, cape, and broad-brimmed hat, evokes the romantic historical fashions so popular with French academic and genre painters of the late 1800s.

Good antique condition with small areas of expected wear. Panel is strong and stable. Frame shows age-appropriate patina and gentle rubbing that enhances its antique character. The painting is housed in its original ornate gilt frame, featuring layered mouldings, deep carving, and a rich patinated surface. The frame elevates the piece and adds strong decorative presence.
