This refined "Paris School" (Ecole de Paris) portrait shows a young woman turned slightly to the side, her gaze directed outward with quiet introspection. Painted around 1920, the work reflects the Paris School’s balance between academic training and modern sensibility. The sitter’s hairstyle and simple dark dress with a light collar place the portrait firmly in the early interwar years, a period when artists increasingly favoured psychological depth and individuality over formal posing.
Good vintage condition with light age-related wear. Canvas remains stable. Paint surface shows gentle craquelure consistent with age. It has been put on a new stretcher on the back as the old one had deteriorate too far. The Frame retains its original finish with minor wear and patina. The painting is housed in its original carved frame, whose geometric floral corner details and warm patina complement the intimate character of the portrait and reinforce its early-20th-century Parisian origin.
