Dated 1864 - Antique Floral Oil Painting | Oval Bouquet Flowers, Original Gilt Frame
A superb French floral still life by Émile Lambinet (1813–1877), dated (64) next to the signature for 1864 and presented in a rare and highly decorative oval composition.
The bouquet is richly arranged, with vibrant blossoms unfolding in layers of soft reds, whites, and subtle purples, set against a gently muted background. The oval format enhances the sense of movement and cohesion, drawing the eye naturally toward the centre of the composition. Lambinet’s handling of light and texture gives the flowers both volume and delicacy, balancing structure with a painterly softness.
While Lambinet is best known for his tranquil landscapes of the Île-de-France, works such as this demonstrate his versatility and refined academic training. Floral compositions by listed landscape painters are particularly desirable, the artist has few florals in market, most found in his small Versailles based museum "Musée Lambinet"
Good antique condition consistent with age. Light surface wear and craquelure visible. Small repairs, as seen on the back. Frame in very good condition with minor age-related wear. The painting is housed in an exceptional gilt oval frame, richly ornamented and perfectly suited to the elegance of the composition. Together, painting and frame create a highly decorative and collectible ensemble.
Artist Bio — Émile Lambinet (1813–1877)
Émile Lambinet was a French painter born in Versailles in 1813, known primarily for his serene rural landscapes of the Île-de-France. He trained under notable artists including Horace Vernet, Antoine-Félix Boisselier, and later Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, whose influence is evident in his sensitive treatment of light and atmosphere. Lambinet spent much of his life in the Yvelines region, working between Versailles and Bougival, where he settled from 1860. His work was well regarded during his lifetime, earning him the France Legion of Honour in 1867. Today, several of his paintings are held in the Musée Lambinet in Versailles, including landscapes and floral works, reflecting the breadth of his practice.
