A superb early 20th century French nude painting depicting a young woman seated by a forest stream. This finely painted oil on canvas is presented in its original carved Montparnasse frame and is Paris school in style.

This elegant composition portrays a young woman seated on a rock beside a tranquil woodland pool. The painter’s subtle modelling of skin tones and light captures both realism and intimacy, while the surrounding landscape provides a serene, natural balance. Painted in France, likely Paris, around the 1910–1930 period, the work reflects the influence of the Parisian École des Beaux-Arts (Paris School) tradition, where artists sought harmony between classical form and modern atmosphere. The use of soft shadows and gentle brushwork recalls the timeless figure studies of the Montparnasse ateliers.

The painting retains its exquisite original Montparnasse frame, carved in gesso with warm patina and traces of original paint. This frame style, favoured by artists and dealers of the Paris art scene in the early 20th century, adds sculptural depth and undeniable presence to the piece.

This piece is in good condition for it's age. It has some old repairs, not very noticeable on the front of the work. This oil painting has recently been to the restorer for a professional cleaning and new varnish applied.
