Antique Roses and Daisies Small Oil Painting, Signed in Gold Frame
A charming small floral still life by Louis Letsch (1856–1940), an Austrian-born artist who spent much of his career working in France and Alsace and became particularly known for his flower paintings. Soft pink and yellow roses mingle with little white daisies in a simple ceramic jug, all beautifully presented in its warm, timeworn gilt frame.
Good antique condition with age-related surface character consistent with its period. The gilt frame retains a particularly attractive warm patina with rubbing, marks and areas of historic wear appropriate to its age.
About Louis Letsch
Louis Letsch, born Ludwig Andreas Letsch (1856–1940), was an Austrian-born painter who built much of his artistic career in France and Alsace. Born in Wolfurt in Vorarlberg, he initially studied with Gebhard Flatz in Bregenz before moving to Paris in 1878, where he studied painting under Tony Robert-Fleury. His surviving body of work contains numerous roses, peonies, chrysanthemums, lilacs and mixed bouquets, often treated with the loose, light-sensitive brushwork characteristic of his floral paintings.
