Circa 1920 - Antique French Potato Oil Painting

Circa 1920 - A lovely French Still Life Oil Painting of the most versatile kitchen ingredient in French Cuisine, potatoes. This antique oil painting comes from Paris and is very decorative and has a wonderful look. We know this painting came out of a large renovation of a Parisian Bistro. We initially stumbled upon the dealer as he was selling all the 18th and 19th century copper pots, as we were going through all the kitchen wares, we found this painting. We purchased the most amazing 19th Century Copper roasting tray, but when we got it home it didn't fit.

For those that dont know Potatoes play a huge role in fine French cuisine. The famous Parisian chef, with 32 Michelin stars by the time he turned 50, Joël Robuchon has been quoted many times saying, "happiness is a great potato and a slab of butter".

This moody antique painting would look great in a kitchen or dining room. We did have the painting professionally cleaned and a new varnish applied but we did leave the frame alone. It comes in its original a shabby frame, we thought it was hanging on the wall like this in the bistro for 100 years and thought it had a nice look. Signed in right lower corner.
