1920 - French Nude Female Portrait Oil Painting, Paris School in Montparnasse Frame
Dating from around 1920 - A wonderful nude study of a woman in an exceptional Montparnasse frame. A very decorative warm toned painting and matching frame. This portrait dates to around 1920 and is Paris School in style. We did find it at a Parisian antique market and it has the stretcher mark from Lefranc and Cie Paris who was the premier canvas supplier to Parisian artists in the early 1900s. This piece is in good condition for it's age and has recently been to the restorer for a professional cleaning.
About Paris School:
The Paris School (École de Paris) was an informal movement of international artists who converged in Paris in the early 20th century, especially in Montparnasse and Montmartre. Active from 1900 to the 1930s, it wasn’t defined by a single style but united diverse artists experimenting with Cubism, Fauvism, Expressionism, Impressionism and more. Many were émigrés from Eastern Europe, such as Chagall, Modigliani, and Soutine, drawn by the city’s artistic freedom. Their work blended personal heritage with modernist techniques, shaping a cosmopolitan, emotionally rich art scene that made Paris the heart of avant-garde innovation during this period.
