A beautiful late 19th century French Impressionist floral painted by Gustave-Henri Colin (1828–1910). This vibrant bouquet of roses and lilies is painted with loose, expressive brushwork typical of the Impressionist movement and presented in its elegant antique gold frame. Roses, lilies, and delicate blossoms burst from a dark vase, their forms suggested through energetic brushwork and rich layered paint. Works like this were particularly popular among French collectors in the late 19th century as Impressionist artists began exploring more expressive approaches to traditional still life subjects.

The painting is signed in the lower left by Gustave-Henri Colin, an established French painter whose work bridges the academic tradition and the more fluid Impressionist style. Gustave Colin showed with Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Degas, Morisot and Pissaro in the First Impressionist Exhibition in 1874 at the Nadar studio in Paris.

Good antique condition. The painting displays beautiful age and patina consistent with its late 19th century origin. The frame shows minor wear appropriate to its age. It is presented in a handsome antique gilt frame that complements the warm tones of the composition and enhances the decorative presence of the piece.

Artist Bio:
Gustave-Henri Colin (1828–1910) was a French painter known for landscapes, genre scenes, and still life compositions. Born in Arras, he studied painting in Paris and became associated with artists influenced by the Barbizon School and the emerging Impressionist movement. Colin exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon beginning in the mid-19th century and gained recognition for his atmospheric landscapes and expressive floral still lifes. His work reflects the transition from academic realism toward the freer brushwork and light-filled compositions that defined late 19th century French painting.
