A remarkable 19th century French landscape depicting Château Rivalan in Camarsac, just outside Bordeaux, home to a long-standing family wine producer still producing Bordeaux to this day. A refined and historically interesting oil painting, presented in its original gilt frame.

The artist has captured the architectural symmetry of the château, including its towers and central entrance to the home, while softening the structure within a romantic landscape setting. A winding path leads the eye toward the building, with a fountain and manicured greenery in the foreground enhancing the sense of refinement and estate grandeur.

The château was built in the 17th century, probably for the d'Angel family. The farm buildings were modified in the 18th century. The main house was received a major renovation 19th century.

Painted in oil on canvas during the 19th century, the work reflects the period’s interest in estate portraiture, where châteaux and country properties were immortalised as symbols of heritage, stability, and prosperity. Such paintings were often commissioned to celebrate ownership and legacy, particularly in wine-producing regions like Bordeaux.

Good antique condition with age-related craquelure consistent with its period. Paint surface remains stable. The frame shows wear and patina appropriate to its age, adding to its authentic historical character. The painting is housed in its original gilt frame, featuring elegant corner ornamentation and a warm antique patina that complements the stately subject.
