Antique French Floral Oil Painting | Chrysanthemum Still Life | Original Signed Impressionist Bouquet, Gold framed
A beautifully composed circa 1910 French still life, centred on a generous bouquet of chrysanthemums, arranged in a simple vessel and set against a deep, moody background. This is a painting that relies on texture, depth, and tonal harmony rather than brightness. The chrysanthemums, with their distinctive spiked and layered petals, are handled with a confident looseness, giving the bouquet a sense of natural fullness and movement. The palette moves through soft whites, warm yellows, and deep autumnal reds, subtly emerging from the darker ground.
The composition is deliberate and the weight of the flowers sits low and wide, creating a grounded presence, while scattered leaves on the table introduce a gentle sense of informality and seasonality. It has all the hallmarks of a Paris School studio floral, designed as much for decorative impact than it's academic predecessors from the 19th century.
Good antique condition with age-appropriate surface wear and light craquelure. Presents well with a rich, atmospheric surface. Signed bottom left but the artist is unknown. Frame with wear consistent with age. Presented in a substantial gilt frame, which complements the warmth and depth of the composition and gives the piece strong wall presence.
