Antique Landscape Oil Painting, Barbizon Green in Gold Framed
A charming small French landscape dating from the late 19th century, depicting two tiny figures walking beneath a group of tall trees at the edge of a woodland. Signed lower right but by an artist we have not yet identified, the painting is beautifully presented in an unusually deep and richly ornamented antique gilt frame.
The landscape is handled with a delicate, atmospheric touch. Rather than describing every branch and leaf individually, the artist builds the woodland from small passages of olive green, russet, ochre and deep brown, gradually dissolving into a pale, hazy sky.
Good antique condition with age-related surface character consistent with its age. The substantial antique gilt frame retains a beautiful darkened patina with rubbing, marks and small areas of historic wear and loss appropriate to its period.
