A sweet 19th Century Antique Oil Painting of a little girl with apples. This antique painting is oil on panel.
This piece is signed in the lower right corner by the artist Adrianus Johannes Ehnle (1819 - 1863). We do believe the painting is of one of Ehnle daughters outside their home in Haarlem. She does have a clear resemblance to his daughters and he often painted his family in his works. In Ehnle genre scenes he was famous for capturing family moments and most often painted one of his very pretty daughters. I have an Ehnle in my private collection. It's a little painting of his wife and daughter mending a torn doll together in their sleeping gowns. In this painting offered now, the apples ready for harvest and his daughter is bringing them into the kitchen. I love her little bare feet and apples sitting inside in her dress. Apples are only ready for harvest in Haarlem in September, so likely would have been in the house with her mother and sent out to the backyard to collect. Maybe to make the first pies of the year :)
About: Adrianus Johannes Ehnle was a Dutch painter and lithographer. He is known for his historical pieces , genre pieces and his portraits.
Ehnle was born in 1819 in The Hague as the son of goldsmith Johan Godfried Ehnle (1791-1826) and Sabina Henrietta Stutterheim (1794-1857). From 1839 to 1843 attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Den Haag. He impressed the Academy with his painting skills, distinguishing himself especially in painting and drawing portraits.
In 1848 he moved to Haarlem and was later appointed curator of the art collections of the Teylers Museum in Haarlem, he remained active as an artist. Works by Ehnle are on display in several major Dutch museums, including the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Teylers Museum in Haarlem, the Kunstmuseum The Hague and the Rijksprentenkabinet in Amsterdam.
