Antique Victorian Child Portrait Oil Painting dated 1869 | Little Boy Holding Doll | Oval European Portrait, Gold Framed

$753.00 Sold out
Tax included.

A beautifully expressive mid-19th century (dated 1869) French portrait of a young boy, captured holding his doll, set within an elegant oval gilt frame.

What immediately sets this piece apart is the psychological presence of the child. The soft modelling of the face, with its delicate transitions of light and shadow, contrasts beautifully with the rich, warm red background. In 19th century French portraiture objects like the doll often symbolised innocence or status. Stylistically, the work sits comfortably within the tradition of French academic portraiture of the period, with its refined handling of flesh tones and controlled brushwork.

Good antique condition with age-related wear. The surface shows expected craquelure and minor signs of age. The painting has been professionally cleaned and revarnished by our restorer. The frame displays gentle wear and patina consistent with its period, contributing to its overall charm.
