A beautiful landscape by the renowned Dutch painter Nicolaas Roosenboom (1805–1880), one of the prominent figures of the Dutch Romantic School. This atmospheric work is highly characteristic of his style and comes in an elegant period frame. A lovely large size at approximately 30 x 23 inches.

This serene 19th-century Dutch landscape captures a quiet river bend with distant village rooftops, rolling hills, and two figures fishing from the bank. The composition is beautifully balanced — expansive sky above, reflective water below, and graceful trees framing the scene. Roosenboom’s hand is unmistakable in the calm light, soft tonal transitions, and natural, unforced storytelling, all hallmarks of his great work.

Nicolaas Roosenboom was admired for his ability to create poetic, peaceful views that feel both romantic and grounded in real observation. This painting is a classic example: gentle atmosphere, harmonious palette, and subtle movement within the landscape. At 30 x 23 inches, this is a particularly desirable size for collectors, substantial enough to anchor a wall, yet intimate enough for a study, library, or salon-style hanging. Presented in its beautiful antique gilt frame, carved with feather details and textured corner motifs that complement the work with a warm, classical presence.

A small personal note, I gave another one of his works to my son for Christmas a few years back. The artists daughter is one of the best Dutch floral painters of the last couple hundred years and I gave on of hers to my daughter on the same Christmas.
