A wonderfully atmospheric late 19th century French landscape depicting a quiet Alpine village nestled beneath the mountains in summer. Freshly cleaned and professionally revarnished, this charming oil painting captures the timeless beauty of rural Alpine France and remains housed in its elegant original antique gilt frame. The composition draws the eye down a narrow village lane between weathered stone houses. Ivy climbs the walls while a small flock of white doves animates the otherwise tranquil street. Beyond the rooftops, the dramatic Alpine slopes rise into the distance, creating a wonderful sense of depth and fresh mountain air.

Signed by the artist, although the signature remains unidentified, the painting carries a touching handwritten inscription in French that translates as “A souvenir for my cousin.” Such personal dedications were common in the late nineteenth century, often commemorating travels or marking meaningful family occasions, adding an intimate layer of history to the work.

Professionally cleaned and revarnished by our conservator. The painting is presented in excellent antique condition with age-appropriate craquelure and minor wear consistent with its age. The original gilt frame displays a beautiful aged patina with light cosmetic wear that enhances its authentic character.
